'Mahal' rugs are given their name from Mahallat, their town of origin in the southwest of Arak in Iran. Mahallat is universally famous for its rugs and carpets, which use both tribal and natural curvilinear motifs in their design.
The tribal motifs in the patterns derive from Mahallat's unique position between the cities of Arak and Delijan, which is on the path of the tribal people of southern Iran. Iranians make pilgimages through Mahallat and visit the town's mineral springs for their healthful and peaceful qualities every year, and the beauty of the spiritual experience of visiting the springs is manifested in the twirling motifs of flowers and water in the mahal rug designs.
Handmade from entirely natural materials in a mix of wool & cotton, this rug is exquisite and would be ideal for decorating the most beautiful and opulent of dining and living rooms, providing a touch of eastern splendour to contrast with western deep mahogany furniture.
