The Authentic Models Alice in Wonderland Balance Toy is part of a whimsical collection of five main characters from Lewis Carroll’s famous children’s book. Colourful and fun, Authentic Models character designs are adapted to fit a contemporary colour palette, while remaining recognizable as Carroll’s creations.  

Detailed Construction

Cut by hand using original templates, this toy is made from a recycled metal sheet. It has been hand painted with careful attention to detail and finished with a rich aged patina. It includes a counterweight calibrated to create swing and a matching metal stand. It is a 3-dimensional, limited edition toy that is difficult to come by, and it has a serial number and a tag of authenticity.

Gadgets inspired by science were popular in the 19th century. The Victorians loved demonstrations of the seemingly impossible. Optical illusions, magnetic forces, the laws of gravity etc, all seemed magical in an era when the industrial revolution was taking changing the fabric of society. Balance toys became popular in such a time; people wanted their toys to be fascinating to the eye.
