A photograph from 1950 taken by Philip Gedreau of the statue of Queen Boadicea riding her chariot in front of Big Ben, London. Boadicea, Queen of the Iceni tribe of ancient Britons, famously rebelled against the Roman occupation of Britain and led an uprising against them in around AD 60. She has come to represent a spirit of British identity and heroism and her statue depicts a woman of indomitable strength and courage.
