Oval Coffee Table
A burl oak veneered and mother of pearl inlaid oval coffee table by Jonathan Charles, with marquetry to the top and apron. Including tapered baluster legs around an h-shaped stretcher, it is inspired by Sheraton designs of c.1780. 'Sheraton' describes a late 18th century English furniture style, inspired by the neoclassical styles of Louis XVI's court. Furniture from this period usually features round tapered legs, fluting and most notably contrasting veneer inlays. This coffee table is no exception, and displays the beautiful Sheraton style with elegance and grace. It is a wonderful coffee table, suitable for a highly ornate and traditional living room.
Burl oak occurs due to branches and other off-shoots to the main trunk of the tree. The finished look for furniture is an intricate individual pattern, where every piece of wood is different. Mother of Pearl is a composite material produced by molluscs as an inner shell layer which makes up the outer coating of pearls. It is strong, resilient, iridescent and utterly beautiful. The mother of pearl inlays on this dressing table provide the finishing touch to a true work of art. The table is also entirely hand crafted, ensuring its uniqueness, beauty and durability.
The Jonathan Charles Duchess collection is inspired by 19th century Italian decorative furniture. The pieces contain heavily distressed finishes and contrasting rasied veneer detail. It is an exquisite collection, defined largely by hand inlaid mother-of-pearl detailing.
