Hand carved from beautiful beech wood, this Authentic Models Artist's fully articulated Horse has been French Finished. The French finish involves at least five coats of varnish being applied, with sanding in between. The idea is to create a rich coat that, together with applications of subtle patinas and mixed waxes, results in an aged and lived-in look. The wood is finished with a wonderful translucent varnish to give it a perfect finishing touch.
Hand Joined & Articulated
The hand carved parts of the horse are all joined and articulated. The brass supports are height adjustable with wingnuts and the intricate neck joints allow the head to be positioned in various ways. Elaborately jointed and movable, the Authentic Models large Artists Horse is highly expressive in style and demonstrates classic taste.
Renaissance painters and sculptors of renown worked in workshops with students, apprentices, and trained artists at hand, and the walls were filled with plaster casts of classic sculptures. There were casts of busts, hands, feet, legs, arms and torsos. Articulated wooden models of the human form and of horses were in demand for everyday use, and art was considered a learned craft for the talented. In our time antique art models have always been in demand for their esoteric presence.
