Workhorse of the Skies
The 1930s DC3 is a sleek and elegant replica of the plane known as the 'Workhorse of the skies'. Manufactured in their thousands until the end of the 1950s by Douglas Aircraft works, they were used for just about everything from civilian to military, government to private. hen the DC3 was introduced, travel was changed beyond recognition. It instantly became an iconic presence, and models filled the desks and windows of travel agents nationwide. A new global travel era was born.
This replica 1930s DC3 is entirely hand cast in recycled airplane aluminium and features riveted propellers like the real plane. It is a nostalgic and perfect replica of an early travel agent advertising sign. It has been hand buffed and polished to an art deco style. Place on a desk or bookshelf in a sophisticated study or library as a piece of aviation decor, and create a focal point for your room setting.
During the Great War of 1914-18 an art form flourished known as 'trench art'. Hand crafted creations from artistic soldiers were constructed using whatever material was at hand; bullet shells, wood, fabric, aircraft aluminium, etc. Popular creatons were airplane models, lighters and differently sized clocks. Authentic Models' flight memorabilia is a perfect replica of trench art, from a time when flight was still a hands-on affair and perfect artistic materials were difficult to come by.
