Kazak (or Qazax) is a small city in northwestern Azerbaijan, but Kazak rugs are mainly woven by the people of Afghanistan who fled to Azerbaijan and Pakistan in the 1990s to escape the oppressive Taliban regime.
The Afghans were influenced by Caucasus designs from the 19th century which used geometric patterns and tended to be red, yellow, gold or blue and include animals, flowers and mediallions similar to tribal rugs.
The Afghan rug weavers went to great lengths to reproduce the aged look of the 19th century works. They tightly spun the wool before knotting, giving the thread a flat and thin finish. This is only otherwise achieved through years of gentle wear, giving the rugs an authentic and classic look.
Handmade from entirely natural materials in a mix of wool & cotton, this rug is perfect for adorning the floor of an opulent dining or living room, and will ensure an eastern influence is present to beautifully contrast with traditional western grandeur.
